DP Fuel Tank Services - tank cleaning, decommissioning, demolition, logo, new name, UK
After 43 years in business, David Plumb & Co is changing its logo and trading name to DP Fuel Tank Services to reflect its growing and diversifying business.
In 1966 David Plumb, the father of current directors Nigel Plumb and Kathy Early, set up the company that has carried his name ever since. Originally the company’s focus was on underground fuel tank cleaning on operating forecourts. Since then the company has moved into purpose built premises in Redhill (1978), grown in turnover and personnel and expanded into many other areas.
In 2009 the company still carries out tank gas freeing and cleaning, but changes in the industry mean this is now generally done on exposed tanks that have been cold cut open, as a precursor to excavation and redevelopment.
As well as tank cleaning, the modern DP Fuel Tank Services now carries out site surveys, demolition of forecourt sites, tank and pipework excavation, environmental assessment, nitro-foam inerting, decontamination and full decommissioning.
Says DP Fuel Tank Services managing director Kathy Early: “We have spent nearly two years planning this new name and image, as over the years we have built up a strong positive image in the industry and we didn’t want to lose any of that heritage, but we also wanted to show that the modern company had grown well beyond a one-man-band tank cleaning operation.
“We also wanted the name and logo to instantly convey a flavour of what we do.”
The new logo is an evolution of the old one, with the white “dp” initials on an orange background morphing into white “dp” shaped suction hoses on an orange fuel tank.
“One thing we definitely wanted to keep was the white on orange colour scheme,” says Kathy Early, “as it has proved a definite asset to us over the years; our stand is instantly recognisable at an exhibition.”
